UPDATE. SUNDAY P.M.: State Sen. Steve Gooch (R-Dahlonega), Senate Majority Leader, has weighed in. “Tonight’s assassination attempt was not only an attack on President Trump but an attack on democracy and a sad day in America. His bold response and steadiness under fire show exactly why he is the right man to lead our nation. I am thankful for the rapid response of the Secret Service and all law enforcement on the scene. Shannon and I are praying for President Trump, his family, and those who were injured in this attack. In America we may disagree on many things but we must always agree that violence is wrong. I am even more resolved in my support for President Trump. #AmericaFirst,” Gooch posted on Facebook.
UPDATE. SUNDAY A.M.: Congressman Rich McCormick, who like Andrew Clyde represents part of Hall County, said on X: “While relived to hear that President Trump is safe, we mourn the senseless and tragic loss of an innocent bystander.
