Little change in Ga. drought; our area remains mostly drought-free

For the second week in a row, there was little change in the drought in Georgia – in area coverage and intensity and northeast Georgia, except for a couple of counties, remains drought-free.

The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) reported Thursday that only about ten percent of the state (confined to northeast and part of northwest Georgia) are drought-free. In the northeast, about half of Forsyth and all of Gwinnett counties are suffering.

The hardest hit area is along the Florida line where conditions are considered “extreme” or “exceptional,” the latter being the most severe on the USDM’s scale of intensity.

The level of Lake Lanier? For the first time in several weeks, it is unchanged – 1064.5.
