The drought situation continues to improve in our area and worsen in south Georgia.
The U.S. Drought Monitor (USDM) says the number of drought-free counties in northeast Georgia increased since a week ago with only the southwest corner of Forsyth and all of Gwinnett now considered suffering drought conditions.
However, in deep south Georgia, the heart of the state’s farm belt, conditions worsened. Conditions in all or parts of nearly 30 counties stretching from Seminole in the southwest to Camden on the coast are considered “extremely” dry.
Meanwhile, the level of Lake Lanier dropped another two-tenths of a foot to 1065.7.
