*State legislators have approved a bill suspending the state gas tax. The tax on gas will pause for at least 60 days, providing relief to motorists who have seen average prices rise by one dollar per gallon over the past month because of the Iran War. Governor Kemp [lans to sign the bill Friday. Kemp had said only a few days ago he was hesitant to sign an Executive Order implementing a “hold” on the tax at this time. It means the price at the pump should go down by about 30 cents a gallon.
*As a line of storms moved through Middle Georgia earlier this week, three EF0 tornadoes, newly confirmed by the National Weather Service, were produced with peak winds between 75 and 85 mph in Upson and Bibb Counties. This brings the total confirmed tornadoes this week to eight. The tornadoes caused tree damage and minor structural impacts, with no reported injuries or fatalities.
*Georgia plans to buy land in the Okefenokee Swamp to create a new wildlife area. The state says the new area will cover almost 4,000 acres and provide the public with fishing and hunting opportunities. The new area does not yet have a name, but it is known to be home to several protected species in Georgia, including the Eastern Indigo Snake and the Gopher Tortoise. Plans call for it to open next year.
