Now known as Caffeine and Octane Lanier Raceway and located on Winder Highway across from Road Atlanta, it was opened by the late northeast Georgia racing legend Bud Lunsford and was the scene of weekly short-track races for a number of years. It wasn’t long after opening that the one-third-mile dirt oval was paved.
At one time it even hosted what are now NASCAR Infinity Series races. But in recent years, the facility was reconfigured and became home to 22 regular drift, autocross and other motorsports events.
The property has been bought by a development company which, at last report, intends to use it for a residential community.
