Lamar Scroggs: Ga.’s longest serving mayor qualifies for another term

Georgia’s longest serving mayor, Lamar Scroggs of Oakwood, has qualified for another term and is the only candidate for the office this year. Qualifying for the Nov. 4 General Election closed Wednesday.

Scroggs was elected to the City Council in 1975 and took office as Mayor the following year and has served in that capacity every year since.

Qualifying was also held for two City Council posts, and the incumbents were the only people to sign up: Stephen Hendrix for Post 1 and Pat Jones for Post 2.

Therefore, in accordance with state law, the election Nov. 4 has been canceled, according to the City Clerk.
