A lake goer has reported a suspected algae bloom on Lake Lanier next to Bald Ridge Creek across from the Girl Scout camp, according to the Lake Lanier Association (LLA). This follows such a sighting on the lake about three months ago. CRK issues Lake Lanier Swimming Safety Alert
The LLA advises to always avoid swimming if you notice discolored water, a unusual smell odor, and green or blue scum.
Once an algal bloom appears, there is little that can be done until it naturally goes away, but it’s important to document the occurrence. These blooms can make people and pets sick through skin contact, ingestion, or inhalation.
