A judge told Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch Monday he can remain free on bond and can drive but only if he adheres to a condition attached to his order.
Couch was arrested on a DUI charge earlier this year and is serving a two-month suspension handed down by Gov. Kemp.
In order to continue to drive, he must use a device that automatically measures his blood-alcohol content, something his attorney says he’s been doing voluntarily.
“We are pleased that the Judge agreed with our proposal this morning,” Blake Poole reiterated in a statement he released after the hearing. “As part of our proposal, Sheriff Couch had already initiated use of the Remote Breath device prior to this morning’s hearing — a voluntary step he took to demonstrate his continued sobriety and his unwavering commitment to public safety. The Court’s order reflects that commitment. The Sheriff looks forward to resuming his full responsibilities to the citizens of Hall County.”
Couch’s trial is tentatively scheduled for this fall.
