JHS: Afternoon incident prompts message to parents

Parents of students at Johnson High School (JHS) got a message early Wednesday evening alerting them to an incident that occurred at the school a few hours earlier.

Hall County School District (HCSD) spokesman Stan Lewis confirmed Thursday morning that the message (see below) which was circulating on social media Wednesday night dealt with a student who declared intent to “shoot up the school.”

The message is posted here, complete and unedited:

This afternoon before dismissal, a student who was upset and emotional announced that they were going to “shoot up the school.” After investigation, we have no indication that the threat is credible. That said, the  student has been referred to law enforcement and they will face disciplinary action per the Hall County Student Code of conduct. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact, Principal Jonathan Edwards.

It’s the second time this week that the school district has had to deal with such an incident.
