Jackson Co. teacher honored; Study: Hall one of state’s best counties; GHA awarded grant

*A West Jackson Elementary School teacher, Teresa Swaim, is one of Georgia’s two Pre-K Teachers of the Year. The other is Autumn Hart of Joy Academy in Marietta. The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning made the announcement earlier this week. Each will receive $3,000 for personal use and an additional $4,500 for their classrooms and programs.

*Hall County, along with four others in the immediate area, is one of Georgia’s best counties, according to a study released by Stacker using rankings from Niche. Niche ranks counties by various factors including public schools, educational attainment, cost of living, and housing. Hall came in at #30 on the list of 30 best counties in Georgia and is among the top 600 in the country. Also on the lists from our area are Habersham, Jackson, Gwinnett, and Forsyth, which is #1 in Georgia and #7 in the country.

*The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) has received a $24,000 Spectrum Digital Education Grant. The money will be used for improving digital literacy, workforce development and educational access in unserved and undeserved GHA communities, according to the authority.
