(97.5 GLORY FM/SRN NEWS) – 9th Dist. Congressman Andrew Clyde (R-Jackson County) was quick to criticize the Supreme Court’s ruling Tuesday on birthright citizenship.
The justices upheld a broad conception of birthright citizenship, rejecting President Donald Trump’s executive order declaring that children born to parents who are in the United States illegally or temporarily are not American citizens.
“Simply being born in the United States does not make you an American,” Clyde, whose district includes part of Hall County declared on X. “Yet we clearly cannot rely on the Supreme Court to uphold this truth. It’s up to Congress to act. We must save our country before it’s too late.”
Hall County’s other congressional representative, the 7th District’s Rich McCormick (R-Suwanee), has not publicly commented on the decision, but did praise another decision the high court issued Tuesday: upholding the rights of states to ban transgender women from girls’ sports teams.
“Before Riley Gaines, before Caitlyn Jenner, and before the US Supreme Court, a brave young girl named Emma stood in the Georgia State Capitol,” McCormick wrote on X. ” She delivered a speech to protect girls’ participation in sports. Today is a long-fought victory for her and girls like her across this country.”
