By this time next week, students in two school systems in our area will have already returned to class for the new school year, and others will be gearing up to do the same after August 1.
Schools in both Commerce and Jefferson will begin the year on Friday, July 28. The latest opening dates is August 8, that’s when students in the Gainesville School System return.
Of the other systems in the area, August 4, is the most popular date for opening the classrooms. That when school begins in Hall, Dawson, White, Habersham, and Jackson counties. Students in Lumpkin, Banks, and Barrow return August 1. It’s back-to-school in Buford, the next day. August 3 is the date chosen by leaders in Forsyth County as the first day for classes.
