*A proposed bill, known as the Georgia Early Literacy Act of 2026, aims to provide funding for a literacy coach in every public school serving grades K-3. WMAZ reports the goal is to enhance early reading skills and improve student outcomes statewide. The bill, which has passed the Georgia House and is now being considered in the Senate, would allocate about $60 million to place over 1,300 literacy coaches in elementary schools across the state. Supporters believe that investing in literacy coaching can lead to improved reading outcomes and student success.
*Atlanta is taking measures to keep a closer eye on ICE agents. The city council’s Public Safety Committee passed legislation yesterday that requires Atlanta police officers to record interactions between ICE officers and the public on their body cams.
*An effort to change Georgia to year-long daylight saving time is moving through the State Capitol. The state Senate approved a bill yesterday that would require the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to okay Georgia’s move into Atlantic Standard Time. There would be no need to switch clocks back and forth twice a year, if this was finalized. Lawmakers passed a measure to move to daylight saving time a few years ago, but it required congressional approval.
