Half of Habersham County’s roads remained closed Tuesday morning following the weekend ice storm that left the county one of the hardest hit places in Georgia.
The county’s Public Information Officer, Ashlyn Brady, says the freezing rain and high winds left a trail of destruction, including downed power lines catching on fire. She says county crews are working tirelessly to clear at least half of county’s 115 roads.
Georgia News Network says habershamnow.com reports Georgia Power and Habersham Electric Membership Corporation are still trying to restore electricity.
Brady adds that four tree crews provided by Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency are helping local crews remove fallen trees and branches.
