HCSO NEWS RELEASE:
“Two people, a husband and wife from White County, have died following a two-vehicle
collision that occurred Saturday, July 5, 2025, on Cleveland Highway in Clermont.
The crash occurred around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Cleveland Highway (US 129) and
Old Cleveland Road (SR 254).
According to the investigation conducted by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO)
Accident Investigation Unit (AIU), a vehicle being driven by Chandler Scott Partin, 81, of
Cleveland, was traveling eastbound on Old Cleveland Road and was attempting to cross
Cleveland Highway when his vehicle was struck in the intersection by a passenger vehicle
traveling northbound on Cleveland Highway. Mr. Partin’s vehicle caught fire following the
crash.
Mr. Partin and his wife, Esther L. Partin, 82, were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville with critical injuries. Mr. Partin died from his injuries Saturday night.
Mrs. Partin succumbed to her injuries Sunday night, July 6.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, along with four passengers in the car (two of them
juveniles), were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center as well. All were treated
for minor injuries and released from the hospital.
Based on review of surveillance video from two locations near the scene, Mr. Partin failed
to stop at the stop sign on Old Cleveland Road prior to entering the intersection. While AIU
will conduct further investigation into the collision, investigators do not anticipate any
charges.”
