Holiday season delivering lower gas prices

This holiday season is delivering cheaper gas prices as travelers hit the road in record numbers, according to AAA.

The average price of a gallon in Gainesville is down a nickel since last Monday and is at $2.68, the state average is down two cents to $2.74, and the national average is $2.85, also a two-cent drop.

AAA says this is the cheapest December at the pump since the end of 2020. Crude oil prices remain low, and despite an increase in gasoline demand over the holidays, supply is strong.

Overall, 2025 has been a stable year for the national average with few fluctuations and no sharp spikes.
