HCSO: Scooter operator seriously injured in overnight wreck

The operator of an electric scooter suffered serious injuries in an overnight collision on Friendship Road, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). The crash, which also involved a car, was reported just before 2 a.m.

“According to the initial investigation, the scooter operator was eastbound on Friendship Road just east of Fall Branch Lane, and a Ford Fusion was traveling behind him,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman B.J. Williams said. “The scooter, which had no rear lights or reflectors, was in the roadway and the driver of the Fusion struck the scooter from behind.”

The scooter operator suffered serious injuries, including a broken left leg. He was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for surgery. His identity was unknown at mid-afternoon Friday, Williams said.

“The driver of the car, a Flowery Branch man, called 911 to report the crash,” she added. “He stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are expected at this point in the investigation.”

Sheriff’s deputies closed two eastbound lanes of Friendship Road for approximately one-and-a-half hours while the investigation was underway.
