HCSO: Robbery suspect ends up captured by his victim & bystander

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE

A Gainesville man (remained) in the Hall County Jail (Tuesday morning) on an armed robbery charge following an incident outside of a business on Atlanta Highway Monday, Aug. 28.

Around 2 a.m., Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies were dispatched to a location in the 1800 block of Atlanta Highway where they found two men holding down the suspect, later identified as Saqueo Hernandez-Cota, 23.

The male victim in the incident told deputies he was sitting in his vehicle outside of a coin laundromat when Hernandez-Cota approached him, pulled out a box cutter and demanded his property. The victim said he turned over his wallet and cell phone, but the suspect then brandished a machete and tried to enter the victim’s vehicle.

The victim said he exited his vehicle from the passenger side to escape, calling for help. Hernandez-Cota followed, but fell as he was chasing the victim. The victim and another man held down the suspect until deputies arrived.

Deputies recovered the box cutter and machete from the scene.

Hernandez-Cota was injured while he was being held by the victim and the other man. He was taken to the hospital for treatment before being transported to the jail. He is being held in medical quarters at the jail.”
