HCSO: New charges in counterfeit $20 bills case

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reported Tuesday morning on additional charges filed against one of two men allegedly found in possession of 60 counterfeit $20 bills last week by Flowery Branch Police. In addition to charges filed by HCSO, Oakwood Police also have warrants on Jonathan Clay Queen, who was still in jail Tuesday morning in lieu of bonds totaling $52,400.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Jonathan Clay Queen, 36, of Dahlonega, was charged with misdemeanor theft by deception after he used counterfeit  money to purchase a small ATV from a Hall County victim.

According to the preliminary investigation, Queen went to a residence on Hollow Creek Drive Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, to buy the item, which had been advertised on Facebook Marketplace. He gave the victim $160 for the ATV.

After the purchase, the victim realized the serial numbers on the bills were identical. He called HCSO to make a report.

Queen was in the process of being detained during a Flowery Branch traffic stop (see link to earlier story below) when our deputy was taking the theft report. Additional counterfeit bills with the same serial numbers were seized in the Flowery Branch case, and the agencies were able to connect Queen to both crimes.”

The sheriff’s office also reported this morning that there are additional charges for Queen from Oakwood Police. Their warrants, which are from December, are for first degree forgery and theft by taking.
