HCSO: Moped operator, victim of hit-and-run, escapes serious injury

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE NARRATIVE:

“This happened around 10:20 a.m. (Sunday)…The moped rider, Sergio Apolo Rufrancos Banos, 37, of Flowery Branch, was traveling near the fog line on Poplar Springs Road.

Vehicles were passing him by going into the opposite lane of travel when safe. The suspect vehicle driver, Natalie Lugo Rodrigues, 20, of Gainesville, attempted to pass him, but moved back into the lane behind the moped, striking him in the process. The rider was pushed into a ditch near Sharon Drive and suffered scrapes to his elbow. The car driver did not stop.

Hall County Fire Rescue responded to check the moped rider. He declined transport to a hospital.

Deputies tracked the car through its license plate to Cumming, where Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies located it and Rodrigues. The investigation into the collision is continuing.”
