HCSO: Missing rental truck from Cumming recovered, two arrests made

Earlier this week, local law enforcement agencies worked in cooperation to recover a stolen vehicle and make two arrests in Lula.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Around 11 a.m. Wednesday, a Banks County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) deputy detected a stolen U-Haul box truck on a traffic camera in the Lula area. The (officer) initiated a traffic stop, and the driver of the truck pulled over in the parking lot of the…Post Office…in Lula. Because the post office (is) located in Hall County, deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) responded to the scene.

After confirming the vehicle had been reported stolen in Forsyth County, HCSO deputies detained the truck driver, Andrea Jenkins, 33, who stated she was homeless. The investigation determined Ms. Jenkins had rented the truck and had not returned it, so it was listed as stolen. The passenger in the truck, Jody Wayne McElroy, 40, of Bogart, also was detained.

Both Ms. Jenkins and Mr. McElroy were charged with felony theft by receiving. Ms. Jenkins remains in the Hall County Jail on a bond of $7,900, while Mr. McElroy remains jailed on a bond of $5,700.”
