HCSO, JEMC ice storm update

6:00 P.M. SUNDAY HALL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) FACEBOOK POSTING:

“The Hall County community continues largely to heed the warning to stay off the roads. No traffic accidents were reported throughout the afternoon. Deputies are appreciative and ask residents to continue to remain home.

Crews from Hall County Public Works, local municipalities and the Georgia Department of Transportation have continued to plow and treat roadways throughout the day. Approximately ten trees fell into roadways during the afternoon.

Downed trees in the clearing stages:

• Staton Road and Campground Road

• 5500 block of Mount Vernon Road

• Thompson Bridge Road/Fraser Circle

The steep and curvy Vaughandale Circle remains closed, the only road closure in unincorporated Hall County.

Please stay current with information from the US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia and Hall County Emergency Management.

Even as precipitation tapers off, overnight lows in the 20s and wind gusts up to 25 mph will keep roads slick and continue the possibility of downed trees and powerlines.

JACKSON EMC UPDATE:

Jackson EMC crews continue restoration efforts across the service area following impacts from Winter Storm Fern. As of 6 p.m., crews are addressing 29  outages affecting 1,489 members and will continue working to restore service as quickly as conditions and safety procedures allow.

Freezing rain throughout the day has caused ice to accumulate on trees and power lines. The added weight has led to downed power lines and broken poles, resulting in outages.

As work is completed, crews are being reassigned to areas with the greatest remaining impact. Crews are prioritizing repairs that will restore service to the greatest number of members first.

“Our crews will continue working tonight to restore outages,” said Tommy Parker, vice president of operations. “Our members are at the center of every restoration decision we make. Crews are working across the system to restore service safely, and we appreciate the patience and understanding our members continue to show.”

As of 6 p.m., Jackson EMC is experiencing 31 outages affecting 1,439 members:

  • Gwinnett 1,100
  • Banks 171
  • Lumpkin 74
  • Jackson 63
  • Barrow 70
  • Hall 11

To support our residential and commercial members during Winter Storm Fern, Jackson EMC has temporarily paused service disconnections for nonpayment. This suspension began Friday, January 23, and is expected to continue through Thursday, January 29. We plan to resume normal operations on Friday, January 30, if conditions allow. “
