HCSO: His need to get to a store got him arrested

An 80-year-old Gainesville man was arrested this week on a charge you may have never heard of – emerging from an alley, driveway or building. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says the man was arrested after a deputy saw him driving a riding lawnmower on a public roadway.

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“The deputy was patrolling the area of Floyd Road and Garden Drive just before 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday…when he saw (the man) driving his lawnmower on the roadway and then onto the sidewalk.

After the deputy stopped (him), he was able to determine (his) driver’s license had been revoked and he had used the lawnmower to travel to a nearby store. He was on his way home at the time of the traffic stop.

(He) was taken into custody on the following traffic citations: emerging from alley, driveway or building (pulling from the road onto the sidewalk), operating unsafe or improper equipment, no lights, driving with a revoked license and driving an unlicensed vehicle on the roadway.”
