HCSO: He was in church Christmas Eve but for all the wrong reasons

A Gainesville man was arrested Christmas Eve for burglarizing a West Hall church earlier in the evening, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage, and following a domestic dispute, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Samuel Alejandro Carlos, 24, of Gainesville, remains in the Hall County Jail following his arrest on Christmas Eve in connection to a domestic violence case and the burglary of a church.

Just after 7:30 p.m., deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) were called to investigate a physical domestic dispute at a residence in the 3600 block of Byers Road in Gainesville. Two adult female victims sustained minor injuries in an altercation with the suspect before he fled the residence on foot. The incident took place in the presence of several witnesses, including a young child.

As that investigation was underway, a call came in for a burglary in progress at a nearby church. A 911 caller reported he could see a suspect on the church security cameras; the description fit that of Samuel Carlos. Deputies responded to Mountain View Baptist Church and found two broken stained glass windows, a broken glass door and some torn sheet rock and insulation. Church staff estimated the damage at more than $15,000.

With the assistance of a K9 team, HCSO deputies located Carlos a short distance away from the church on McEver Road. He was taken into custody around 8:20 p.m.

Samuel Carlos faces the following charges in connection with the two incidents:

·         Possession of methamphetamine (.6 grams)

·         Possession of marijuana (less than one ounce)

Carlos is jailed without bond at this time.”
