HCSO: E. Hall teen busted for street racing, two fellow racers get away

A Gillsville teen remained in jail Thursday afternoon after being arrested Wednesday night on Dawsonville Highway on several traffic charges, including street racing. But two companion racers got away, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“Around 10 p.m., a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputy who was on patrol on Jesse Jewell Parkway observed three vehicles turn westbound onto John Morrow Parkway, line up alongside one another and then accelerate. The vehicles reached speeds of 70 mph in a 35 mph speed zone as they navigated a curve on John Morrow Parkway.

The deputy pursued the vehicles, losing sight of two of the drivers, but he was able to follow the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, later identified as Caleb Reyes, 17. Reyes continued at an accelerated speed to the intersection of Pearl Nix Parkway, where he made an illegal lane change, nearly causing an accident with another vehicle.

Reyes eventually stopped his vehicle in the area of Washington Avenue, where he was arrested on the following misdemeanor charges:

·         Reckless driving

·         Driving too fast for conditions

·         License violation (driving with a learner’s permit without a licensed passenger in the vehicle)

·         Lane change violation

·         Racing on highway or streets

Reyes remains in the Hall County Jail with a bond of $1,820.”

This is the fifth street racing arrest in Hall County in less than a week and at least the eighth time such a case has been made this year: Four more street racing arrests (wgtjradio.com)
