HCSO: Gville man jailed following burglary, police chase

A Gainesville man remained in the Hall County Jail Wednesday afternoon following his arrest Tuesday for a burglary at a house on Old Cleveland Road, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

HCSO NARRATIVE:

“A witness who saw the suspect, later identified as Zachary Martin Mize, 30, inside the residence, reported the incident to 911 around 7:40 a.m. The witness was able to provide a vehicle description and tag number to the dispatcher, who relayed the information to responding Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies.

As one deputy was responding to the scene, he saw Mr. Mize’s vehicle traveling southbound on Cleveland Highway…and initiated a traffic stop. Initially, Mr. Mize pulled over in a convenience store parking lot at Little River Park Road, but as the deputy approached the vehicle, Mr. Mize fled the scene. As Mr. Mize drove away, he almost struck several other vehicles traveling southbound on Cleveland Highway.

A second deputy located Mr. Mize and his vehicle behind a shopping center at 1703 Cleveland Highway, about two miles south of the initial traffic stop. During the course of the arrest, Mr. Mize threatened the deputy with bodily harm.

At this time, the investigation into the burglary continues. Mr. Mize faces the following felony charges: burglary in the first degree, fleeing/attempting to elude and terroristic threats.The suspect also was charged with the following misdemeanor offenses: reckless driving, obstruction, improper signals, improper right turn, improper use of center turn lane, passing in a no passing zone and open container violation.

Mr. Mize is currently jailed without bond.”
