HCSO NARRATIVE:
“Delrico Maurice McWhorter, 52, of Gainesville, was arrested New Year’s Eve for DUI and other traffic offenses following an attempted traffic stop on Mountain View Road.
Just before 3:30 p.m., a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) traffic investigator was traveling southbound on Mountain View Road in the area of Mabry Road when she observed a Honda SUV in front of her with the driver having difficulty operating the vehicle. The driver veered off the right side of the road and then swerved back into the southbound lane.
The investigator activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency equipment to make a traffic stop near Old Flowery Branch Road, but the driver, later identified as Mr. McWhorter, refused to stop. Mr. McWhorter traveled into the opposite lane of traffic, forcing oncoming vehicles to leave the roadway to avoid being struck. Mr. McWhorter continued to drive in the middle of the road onto Byers Ridge Road and Muskie Lane before coming to a stop in his own driveway at Buttons Place.
The investigator smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from Mr. McWhorter as he exited his vehicle. A traffic deputy responded to the scene to conduct a DUI investigation.
Following the investigation at the scene, Mr. McWhorter was arrested and charged with the following offenses:
· Failure to maintain lane
· Driving on the wrong side of the roadway
· Fleeing/attempting to elude
· Windshield/front window tint violation
· Driving on a suspended license
· No proof of minimum insurance
· DUI-alcohol/less safe
· Open container while operating a motor vehicle”
