A Gainesville teenager was arrested Monday afternoon, hours after he drove at and crashed into a sheriff’s deputy’s car during a chase, a spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said Tuesday.
“Deputies took Toby Price, 17, into custody in the 1200 block of East Ridge Road at approximately 2 p.m.,” Derreck Booth said. “They also arrested Destiny Marie Prine, 19, of Gainesville, for hindering apprehension (felony). Deputies located Price hiding in a tin outbuilding behind a house. Prine helped Price hide in the building and gave deputies false information on his whereabouts.”
Price was wanted for numerous offenses stemming from the chase which occurred Sunday night.
- Aggravated assault on a peace officer (felony)
- Fleeing/attempting to elude police officer (felony)
- Interference with government property (felony)
- Failure to stop at an accident with damage (misdemeanor)
- Reckless driving (misdemeanor)
- Failure to obey traffic control device – 2 counts (misdemeanor)
- Failure to maintain lane (misdemeanor)
- No driver’s license (misdemeanor)
“According to the preliminary investigation, a deputy attempted to stop Price’s Honda Civic around Enota Avenue and Ga. 60/Thompson Bridge Road for failure to maintain lane,” Booth continued. “Despite the deputy’s use of lights and sirens, Price refused to stop and led the deputy through a parking lot at Yonah before returning to Enota and then heading north on Thompson Bridge Road.
“Price passed vehicles at the Walmart intersection and ran the red light, continuing north. He turned right onto Sandridge Court, making a U-turn at the end of the street and driving back to Thompson Bridge Road, where he ran another red light and continued down Linwood Drive.
“At the end of Linwood, Price made a U-turn and drove at the pursuing patrol vehicle. Despite an attempt by the deputy to drive out of the way, Price’s car crashed into the deputy’s vehicle bumper. Price wrecked his car into a ditch and then fled on foot into nearby woods. A K9 team searched for Price but did not find him Sunday night.”
Price was still being held without bond in the Hall County Jail at midday Tuesday.
