HCSO: Accidental shooting leaves Cumming man seriously wounded

HALL CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE (HCSO) NARRATIVE:

“A 22-year-old man from Cumming was injured in an accidental shooting at a residence in the 5300 block of Clarks Bridge Road in Gainesville over the weekend.

Deputies with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office…became aware of the incident as they were working a traffic accident Sunday…around 2:15 p.m., on Clarks Bridge Road near Whitmire Circle. A motorist ran toward one of the deputies saying that his friend had suffered an accidental gunshot wound at his residence. The deputy found the victim in the front seat of a vehicle with a gunshot to his throat at the base of his neck. The deputy rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene to transport the victim to the hospital.

An HCSO criminal investigator responded to the hospital. The initial investigation determined there were four people in the residence at the time of the shooting, three men and one woman. The three men, including the victim, were planning to do some practice shooting. One of the men, also from Cumming, was disassembling his weapon to clean it when it discharged. The bullet struck the victim. The homeowner placed the victim in his vehicle to drive him to the hospital.

The injury to the victim was deemed serious, but not life threatening. His current condition is unknown.

Deputies recovered the handgun from the scene.

No charges will be filed…”
