HCSO: $60K+ drugs seized with arrest of fugitive

A Gainesville man remained in the Hall County Jail with no bond Tuesday morning following his arrest at a local motel last week by local and federal investigators, who seized more than $60,000 worth of illegal drugs, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said Tuesday

HCSO NEWS RELEASE:

“Investigators with the HCSO Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and Homeland Security
Investigations (HSI) arrested Meco Antwon Champion, 51, at a hotel in the 700 block of Jesse
Jewell Parkway on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 16.
They confiscated 793 grams of methamphetamine, seven grams of crack cocaine, two grams of
powder cocaine and roughly 32 grams of marijuana from Champion. Investigators also seized a
handgun, approximately $1,440 cash, scales and packaging material from Champion. The
combined street value of the drugs is approximately $60,742.
Champion faces the following charges:
 Trafficking methamphetamine (felony)
 Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute (felony)
 Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute (felony)
 Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime (felony)
 Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (felony)
 Possession of marijuana (felony)
Investigators located the items above while arresting Champion on a warrant for possession of
methamphetamine with intent to distribute (felony). They obtained the initial warrant after
finding approximately three grams of methamphetamine, a scale and packaging material on Oct.
10 in Champion’s residence on U.S. 129/Athens Highway…”
