Three people are free on bond following their arrests recently on street racing charges. In one of the cases, a utility task vehicle overturned while “doing doughnuts” around 4:00 Saturday morning in the middle of an intersection, injuring one person.
HCSO NARRATIVE #1: Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies were dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle crash on West Ridge Road at Hancock Avenue around 4:05… The preliminary investigation determined Omar Alexandro Ponce, 30, was the operator of the vehicle, and he had been “doing doughnuts” in the middle of the intersection. At one point, Ponce lost control of the vehicle, which overturned on the passenger side, trapping the passenger.
The passenger, a 29-year-old woman, was wearing her seatbelt, but she was transported to the hospital to be evaluated for an injury to her right arm and her back.
Ponce was arrested and charged with reckless driving, no proof of insurance, failure to maintain lane, open container violation and DUI. He was released from jail on a bond of $7,910 (Saturday night)…
HCSO NARRATIVE #2: “On Friday… at approximately 7 p.m., a Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Traffic Unit deputies saw two cars racing one another on Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway around Old Fork Road.
The deputy checked their speed at approximately 94 mph. The deputy caught up with the westbound drivers at Deepwater Drive. He was able to stop and arrest one of the drivers, Carlos Alberto Garcia Pacheco, 22, of Gainesville, on Dawsonville Highway. Another Traffic Unit deputy located and arrested the second driver, Angelina Victoria Chistel, 19, of Dawsonville, on Deepwater Drive.
Deputies cited each driver for the following traffic offenses:
- Speeding
- Reckless driving 1st offense
- Racing on highway or streets
Both drivers were booked into the Hall County Jail. Chistel was released on $1,200 bond Saturday morning. Pacheco was released on $1,200 bond Saturday afternoon.”
