HCC okays new budget

The Hall County Board of Commissioners voted to approve the $398.5 million Fiscal Year 2026 Budget at the June 26 voting meeting at the Hall County Government Center.“We presented a flat budget to the Board of Commissioners, meaning there was no change in the overall county-wide total from last year’s budget,” Hall County Administrator Zach Propes said. “The Board of Commissioners and Budget Committee worked diligently to optimize and balance the needs and demands of a growing community like Hall County, keeping top of mind our responsibility to serve and prioritize the taxpayers of our community.”The budget was prepared using an estimated full rollback of the General Fund millage rate, but given the statewide delays in the 2025 tax digest preparation, Hall County has yet to adopt the 2025 millage rates. Historically, the Board of Commissioners has rolled back the General Fund millage rate for 10 out of the past 11 years. County leadership will recommend another full rollback of the General Fund millage rate to the Board for adoption in the coming weeks.Three major revenue streams fund the $398.5 million budget, including approximately one-third from property taxes, one-third from grants, fines and payments, service fees and other tax revenues, and one-third from local sales tax programs (Local Option Sales Tax and Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax). This is the sixth and final year of sales tax collections from the SPLOST VIII program.Highlights for the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget include:30-plus miles of road resurfacing throughout the CountyWhite Sulphur and SR-365 road improvementsDesign and right-of-way acquisition for Spout Springs Road Widening Phase IIConstruction of Lights Ferry Road and McEver Road roundaboutConstruction of the new East Hall librarySheriff’s Office Gun Range improvementsCandler Road Landfill improvementsDesign of the new South Hall Park and Active Life CenterContinued investment in vehicles and equipment“There is a significant amount of work that goes into the budget process,” Hall County Board of Commissioners Chairman David Gibbs said. “It’s long and tedious, but it’s also one of the most important things we do to serve the Hall County community. I want to thank the Board, County staff and leadership for their time, efforts and cooperation to ensure we are all acting as responsible stewards of our community.”For more information on the Fiscal Year 2026 Budget, visit the Finance & Records section on hallcounty.org or click here to view the FY 2026 Budget in Brief.
