*The Hall County Commission (HCC) approved a moratorium on ICE detention facilities in the county in the wake of controversial plans for one in Oakwood. The board also okayed a 180-day extension of a moratorium on certain types of housing developments.
*In Winder, the defense rested Thursday in the trial of the father of alleged Apalachee school shooter Colt Gray. Before doing so. the district attorney played a video of Colt getting on a school bus and walking into school carrying a rolled-up package the state says contained the gun used in the shooting. There were also pictures of him on a gun range. Colin Gray faces a long list of charges growing out of his admitted purchase of the gun for his son. The defense, meanwhile, told the court it would call only one witness when it begins presenting its case Friday – the defendant himself.
*The Georgia Commission on Women hosted its annual Champions for Change Day at the State Capitol Thursday and presented Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish with the Speaker David Ralston Healthcare Warrior Award. The day is set aside each year to honor “those that have worked tirelessly to significantly improve the lives of women and families across the Peach State.” Chief Parrish was for his hard work and dedication in bringing the Mental Health Clinician Co-Responder program to fruition in Gainesville, according to a Facebook post.
