HCC considering referendum on sale of liquor in county

Distilled spirits, or packaged liquor and liquor-by-the-drink (sometimes described as “hard” liquor), are available in some of the cities and towns in Hall County, but not unincorporated parts. But that could change this year – at least where packaged sales are concerned. Or the prohibition could continue.

It all depends on whether such sales are approved in a referendum that may be held this spring.

The county commission (HCC) plans a called meeting Monday at 2:45 “to consider a resolution of the
Board of Commissioners of Hall County, Georgia calling for a referendum election of the question whether Hall County shall be authorized to issue licenses for the package sale of distilled
spirits subject to the Hall County voters’ approval of a referendum on May 19, 2026,” according to Friday afternoon notice posted by the county. That’s the day the General Election primaries will be held in Georgia.

Beer and wine sales are already legal in the county and have been for some time.

The meeting will be held at the government center.
