6:00 P.M. UPDATE:
By the end of the day Friday, both of Hall County’s congressional representatives had been target of vocal protests for their support of President Trump’s actions during his first month in office.
First, it was Rich McCormick’s turn at a town hall meeting in Roswell Thursday night. (See earlier story below.)
Then, Friday afternoon at group of demonstrators showed up outside Andew Clyde’s Gainesville office on Washington Street downtown.
Most of the opposition has been directed at the work of the new White House Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and the man running it, Elon Musk.
EARLIER STORY. POSTED 9:00 A.M. FRIDAY:
Congressman Rich McCormick, whose district includes parts of Hall County, ran into a hostile crowd at a town hall meeting in Roswell Thursday night.
The AJC reports McCormick (R-Suwanee) was bombarded with boos and catcalls by hundreds of attendees over his support of President Donald Trump’s agenda during the president’s first month in office.
One person in the crow accused the congressman of “doing a disservice” for supporting the budget-slashing cuts by the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“You don’t think I’m going to stand up for you?” asked McCormick, while admitting “I don’t want to see any president be too powerful,” and then began criticizing former President Biden and his administration.
Andrew Clyde (R-Jackson County) is the other of Hall County’s congressional representatives.
