UPDATE: Habersham Co. manhunt over

The state patrol says Rahim Abdullah, 50, was captured earlier this evening in the general area where law enforcement officers had been looking for him. He had fled on foot after wrecking his car while being chased by a state trooper who had tried to stop him in connection with an incident Athens that left one person dead.

“He was arrested in the area of today’s search, near Tom Arrendale Interchange in an unincorporated area of Habersham County outside Clarkesville and Mt. Airy,” Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore wrote in an email. “The interchange is where Ga. 17 (Toccoa Highway), Ga. 15, and Ga. 365 intersect.”

“12:45 p.m. URGENT UPDATE: Man wanted by GSP (Georgia State Patrol) possibly armed and dangerous; do not approach

Units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office are assisting the Georgia State Patrol with a manhunt near Tom Arrendale Interchange.

GSP is seeking a black male with dreadlocks who fled on foot from a vehicle involved in a pursuit with GSP.

Troopers believe he may be armed and dangerous and possibly was involved in a violent crime in another county.

Sheriff Joey Terrell urges anyone who sees the man in the area of Ga. 15, Ga. 365, Toccoa Highway and the surrounding area not to approach him, but to dial 9-1-1 immediately.”
