Gville officials to remember Oct. 7 attack on Israel

A Gainesville rabbi is scheduled to offer the prayer of invocation before Tuesday night’s meeting of the Gainesville Mayor and City Council as the local Jewish community and others continue to reflect on the Oct.7 attack on Israel that ignited the Israeli-Hamas War one year ago.

“As we reflect on the one-year anniversary of the Simchat Torah – October 7th attack, I am honored to share that the Mayor of Gainesville, Mr. Sam Couvillon, has invited me to open the upcoming city council meeting with a prayer invocation, as a representative YOU our beautiful community,” Rabbi Nechemia Gurevitz wrote in a Facebook posting to his followers. “Following this, the Council will share their support for Israel and ‘shine a light’ on our local Jewish community.

“I would like to extend an invitation to join me at this significant gathering as we demonstrate our appreciation for our municipal leaders’ commitment to our community. Your presence will send a powerful message of solidarity and support.”

The council meets at 5:30 in the Municipal Courtroom at the city’s justice center on Queen City Parkway.
