The City of Gainesville has posted signs near at homeless camp it plans to clear starting December 1.
They warn occupants of the so-called Flat Creek Camp of the pending action and cite the city code being used to justify the action and direct residents to source for help in seeking a new place to live. Plans for the eviction were announced several weeks ago.
Meanwhile, the non-profit organization SmileHub recently released to new reports on homelessness in this county – Best Charities for Homeless Support and the Best States for Homeless People in 2025 – one of which says Georgia has the second-worst record of taking care of its homeless population.
To highlight the states doing the best job to help the homeless and the ones that need to improve the most, it compared each of the 50 states based on 20 key metrics. The data set ranges from the number of charities providing homeless support per capita to the share of unsheltered homeless individuals to the amount of work hours needed to afford housing.
