Thousands of people lined Green Street Sunday for Gainesville’s annual Christmas on Green Street, highlighted by a parade on the historic thoroughfare.
Streets that are access points to Green and the street itself were closed at noon for the celebration and did not reopen until about 6:00 after the lighting of the Rotary Tree at Green/Butler Parkway/Academy Street about six hours later.
Despite lots of advanced publicity about the event, apparently not everyone got the message. Here’s a sampling of some of the posts on the Eyewitness Hall County Facebook page:
*I took a big detour, I believe there’s a parade tonight, I didn’t know there was one today.
*What’s going on uptown whole circle around the square is blocked off?
*What is going on in Gainesville that the traffic is all being routed around Enota area?
