GSP: 121 mph motorist arrested after I-985 chase

A 23-year-old motorist reportedly clocked at 121 mph on I-985 Friday night was still in the Hall County Jail Monday where he was being held without bond following a chase with state troopers.

STATE PATROL NARRATIVE:

“…Troopers were performing speed enforcement on I-985 at mile marker 8 when they observed a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle was checked at 121 miles per hour, and a traffic stop was initiated. 

But the driver turned off his headlights and continued to drive at excessive speeds and began passing vehicles in the median.  The vehicle ultimately exited onto Exit 14, where Troopers temporarily lost contact with it.  While driving through the area, the vehicle was located again, and a traffic stop was conducted.

The driver, later identified as Ian Bryle Ballesteros, surrendered without incident.  It was discovered that the Ballesteros was impaired and was he was arrested on traffic charges, including felony fleeing and DUI.”
