Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson is expressing “great disappointment” at the arrest of one of his deputies Friday on drug-related and other charges.
Johnson had requested an independent investigation after a preliminary review of allegations made against Lt. Ethan Taffar. The state agency said Taffar has been charged with distribution of a Schedule II controlled substance and violation of oath of office. EARLIER STORY. POSTED FRIDAY NIGHT:
Sheriff Johnson went on to say proceedings to terminate Taffar’s employment with the sheriff’s office also began Friday.
“While the actions of one individual do not represent the values of our agency as a whole…we understand that news like this affects the public trust, and we want to (assure) our community that we do not take this lightly.”
