*Georgia’s governor is calling on state agencies to withhold any spending increases in their budgets over the next two fiscal years. Brian Kemp stated in a July 11th letter that offices should not request additional funding from the state, even if their departments are cut from federal funding. This comes after President Trump recently passed his budget bill, which would slash Medicaid spending and SNAP benefit costs and hand them over to states. Proposed budgets are due at the governor’s desk by September.

*A University of Georgia football player is facing new criminal charges. The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office says Jahzare Jackson was arrested last week for possession of over one ounce of marijuana. The drug charge is considered a felony. Jackson is a sophomore offensive lineman for the Bulldogs.

*A Taliaferro County Deputy has been suspended without pay and demoted after being cited for boating under the influence. The Sheriff’s office says Chief Deputy Chris Treadwell was arrested July 5th for operating a boat while intoxicated and without lights at night. Treadwell then submitted his resignation via text, but later rescinded it. Taliaferro County Sheriff Tia McWilliams placed Treadwell on administrative leave without pay and said that upon his return, he would serve with a reduction in rank.
