Giuliani, Ga. election workers update; Taxpayer rebate; Legal blow to state GOP; Teachers struggling

FROM GEORGIA NEWS NETWORK:

*Rudy Giuliani is being ordered to turn over his personal property to two Fulton County election workers he defamed after the 2020 election. The Trump lawyer must give up his interest in his New York apartment, cash accounts and other valuables to cover the 148-million-dollars the jury awarded the mother and daughter last year. Giuliani’s attorneys are already planning an appeal.

*Georgia’s governor is proposing a big rebate for taxpayers because of the state’s large surplus. Brian Kemp unveiled a plan Tuesday for joint filers to receive 500-dollars back and for single filers to get 250-dollars. The total is expected to reach more than one-billion-dollars. Lawmakers must pass the measure before it goes into effect.

*An effort by Republicans to overturn a court’s decision over new election rules is unsuccessful. A Fulton County judge ruled last week that seven new rules passed by the State Elections Board recently were unconstitutional. The Georgia Supreme Court denied an appeal Tuesday from the Georgia Republican Party to reinstate the rules ahead of the election.

*A recent survey of Georgia teachers conducted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, or PAGE, revealed that many educators are experiencing burnout and financial challenges, with factors such as lack of support from administrators and disruptive student behavior contributing to the issue. Despite recent pay raises, a significant number of teachers struggle to cover living expenses, with housing costs and student loan debt being major concerns. PAGE provided recommendations to address these challenges to Gov. Brian Kemp and other state leaders.
