GHSA investigating game-ending GHS-BHS fight

The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) may have a decision as early as Monday on any disciplinary action growing out of the fight that ended Friday night’s playoff game between Gainesville High and Brunswick High in the third quarter.

Gainesville was leading at the time 42-0 and was declared the winner when the game was halted with about two minutes to go in the third quarter.

The brawl appears to have erupted following some shoving among players after an incomplete Brunswick pass.

Brunswick’s season is over but Gainesville advances to the next round of the playoffs next week.

While the GHSA investigation is continuing, Gainesville athletics director Adam Lindsey said the Red Elephants will continue preparing for their next game.

Brunswick Head Coach Garrett Grady said the brawl was “not the way we wanted to end” and is not representative of the school’s values. He called it a mistake and said the team needs to learn from it and keep its composure in the future.
