GHS flag football game stopped due on-field incident; Gville declared the winner

3:30 P.M. UPDATE:

A Georgia High School Association (GHSA) official has confirmed what we reported late Friday morning about Thursday night’s Gainesville High flag football game.

“Several players were ejected after a fight and after the dust cleared (Carver) did not have enough players left to continue however Gainesville did,” Marvin James, Director of Media Relations said in an email. “So, the (game) was deemed a forfeit and Gainesville won 1-0.”

EARLIER STORY. POSTED 11:45 A.M FRIDAY:

Stop me if this sounds familiar: a Gainesville High football game is stopped in the third quarter because of an on-field fight.

Well, just weeks after it happened involving the boys’ football team, the Gainesville High flag football game with Carver Columbus Thursday night was declared over following an on-field incident.

After winning their opening round GHSA game over Worth County, Gainesville advanced to the next round by forfeit when their game with Carver Columbus ended with a fight at City Park Stadium-Bobby Gruhn Field, sources say. The Lady Elephants advance with a 1-0 forfeit.

The Gainesville High athletics director has not returned a request for comment and a GHSA official has been contacted for any information he can provide. The GHSA playoff bracket does show Gainesville advancing to the next round with a 1-0 forfeit over the Columbus team.
