GAINESVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE:
“While the state of Georgia weathers somewhat of a dry spell, the Gainesville Fire Department (GFD) is requesting the public hold off on burning leaves, tree limbs and other debris until the weekend.
According to the Georgia Forestry Commission’s Fire Weather System, Gainesville-Hall County is currently facing a “high” threat of fire danger. The fire danger forecast for Thursday, Oct. 4, indicates a “very high” to “extreme” threat.
Gainesville Fire Chief Brandon Ellis referenced low rainfall and humidity as causes for concern, plus higher winds forecast later in the week.
“For the public’s safety, the Gainesville Fire Department will postpone issuing burn permits through Friday, Oct. 6,” he said.
Under current conditions, fires can start and spread easily, then become serious and difficult to control unless put out while still small.
The GFD expects to resume issuing burn permits Saturday, Oct. 7.”
