GDOT discusses progress on Sardis Rd. Connector, plans to open permanent driveway at Chestatee Academy

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Monday provided an update on the Sardis Road Connector project and the opening of a permanent driveway at Chestatee Academy.

The Sardis Road Connector begins at the Sardis Road/Chestatee Road intersection and extends north to Dahlonega Highway near the Mt. Vernon Road intersection. The alignment follows several existing local roads with portions constructed on new roadway. Once complete, the connector will provide a north-south link between Dawsonville Highway and Dahlonega Highway.

The 3.55-mile project will feature:

  • A four-lane divided roadway with curb and gutter (two lanes in each direction).
  • A 20-foot-wide median with 6-inch curb and gutter separation.
  • Sidewalks on both sides of the roadway to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.

As part of the project, GDOT will open a permanent school driveway for Chestatee Academy. Work to connect the driveway will begin Friday and will officially open next Monday.

“This improvement will enhance access to Chestatee Academy and reduce congestion during school arrival and dismissal times,” according to GDOT news release.
