Gasoline prices in Gainesville and the state as a whole took a big jump upward over the past seven days as the state resumed collecting its tax on the product.
Gov. Brian Kemp announced last Tuesday that he was not going to extend the suspension of the gas tax which took effect Oct. 2 as the state struggled with the impact of Hurricane Helene.
The average price of regular unleaded in Gainesville today is $2.85 a gallon, an increase of 15 cents since this time last week. The statewide average went up even more – 23 cents a gallon to $2.93.
The national average, meanwhile, is $3.17 compared to $3.15 last week.
