Gainesville Mayor Sam Couvillon says he plans to run for the 9th District Congressional seat now held by Andrew Clyde (R-Jackson County).
Couvillon’s announcement Tuesday says he will run in next year’s Republican primary. He is now in his third year as mayor and before that was a city council member for eight years. Meet Sam — Sam Couvillon for Congress
“The hardworking men and women of GA-09 deserve a proven conservative voice in Congress who will deliver results,” Couvillon said in a news release. “While most politicians are more concerned with making a point than getting things done, I’ll be ready on Day 1 to support President Trump’s agenda, secure our southern border, tackle inflation and the rising cost of living, and stand with our farmers and small businesses.”
Clyde has held the post since 2020.
