Gainesville Man Injured with “Homemade Explosive Device”

A 20-year-old Gainesville man was hospitalized after suffering injuries from, “a homemade explosive device” on Saturday, according to HCSO and the Gainesville Times.

The Times reports that officials, “do ‘not believe he was trying to make an explosive device.’”

Security personnel from Northeast Georgia Medical Center contacted law enforcement officials around 11pm.

HSCO reported that the man was in his bedroom at his home on Donna Way and inserted cap gun rings into a glass container. The glass shattered and the caps exploded after the man placed a lit match inside.

The 20-year-old suffered several injuries including, “lacerations to [his] hands, right bicep and neck. The injuries were deemed not life-threatening.” He underwent an interview and his house was searched. There was nothing suspicious found.
